Full course description

All Right, All Night

All Right All Night is a national campaign to ensure that social nights out are free from intimidation, violence and fear for all – and especially for young and vulnerable people. Empowered with the right knowledge and skills, if we all look out for one another, as ‘Active Bystanders’ we can have safe and fun nights out.

You will receive a ‘Certificate of Completion’ once you have completed this one hour training course.

This training is a direct response to current research on young people’s experiences of sexual violence and harassment, and builds UCC Bystander Intervention Programme’s experience of providing workshops to young people aged 16 – 24 which has demonstrated the frequency with which they witness and/or experience harm when socialising and online, even amongst their own peer groups.  Their desire to challenge these perceived norms, creates a curiosity and eagerness to develop safe bystander intervention skills.

When undertaking this training, participants are introduced to the concept of an active bystander, and are educated about the range of unacceptable behaviours, the impact of the social normalisation of inappropriate sexual behaviour, and equips participants to become active bystanders in their society.

The key message is to only make an intervention IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.  Participants learn how to assess a situation to identify the best intervention skills to utilise in that situation in order to ensure a safe outcome for everyone.

 Course content:

This online training takes approximately one hour to complete.  The training is however, self-directed, so participants are invited to progress through the course at a pace that feels comfortable for themselves.

Course evaluation:

This is a new course, created by UCC’s Bystander Intervention Programme and we have designed a short evaluation, the results of which will be included in a report to the funders of this programme; The Night Time Economy Unit of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

This is not compulsory but we would appreciate your participation.  Should you wish to participate there will be two short anonymous survey before you commence training and upon completion.  These surveys take approximately three minutes each to complete.
